Frequently Asked Questions Regarding HVAC Units

Wall's HVAC Service, the best heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks, has been servicing people all over the lake area for over 10 years now. In that time, we have got many frequent questions regarding HVAC units. In this blog, we are going to discuss the questions and answers to some of our frequently asked questions.

1. How do I check my air filter?

We suggest checking your disposable air filters monthly. If it's dirty, just replace it. Don't try to clean it. Different systems have different air filters and locations. Usually, there is a removable access door in the return duct, next to the furnace or indoor unit. This might be in a basement, crawl space, utility, closet, garage, or attic. Please see some easy steps to follow when changing your air filter, if it's the permanent type:

  • Turn the thermostat to the off position, locate and remove your air filter.
  • Use a garden hose that has good water pressure and spray off both sides.
  • Shake off excess water.
  • When the water runs clear and no longer dirty, slide the air filter back into the rack. Keep in mind the air is meant to flow through your filter in just 1 direction. Look for an air flow arrow and be sure it's pointed in the right direction.
  • Now you can turn your thermostat back on and just remember to do this next month.

2. How do air conditioners actually work?

An air conditioner makes your home cooler, by absorbing the heat energy from the house and transferring that heat outside. Then, it replaces the air inside your home with cooler air.

3. Should I purchase a new system that uses R-410A refrigerant?

More and more air conditioners that are being made currently require R-410A, which is a more efficient and envrionmentally friendly refrigerant.
