4 Steps to Winterize Your HVAC System

Fall is officially here! When it comes time switch your HVAC system from your air conditioner to your heater, Wall's HVAC Service wants you to be prepared. There are certain steps you can take to switch over your system. Our heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to explain those steps to you.

4 Steps to Winterize Your HVAC System

1. Remove your window units.

Remove any window units you may have and store them in your home. You can preserve you window HVAC units better throughout the winter by taking them out and storing them until you are ready to use the following summer.

2. Clean your unit.

Take the time to clean any outdoor units you may have. Remove any debris that been trapped inside of the unit. Also, clean the unit by using a water hose to spray away dirt and dust. Just be careful not to bend the fans or damage any of the parts. Be sure to allow your unit to dry completely before moving to the next step listed.

3. Purchase your cover.

Cover your unit. This can help prevent any debris from getting into it through the winter. You can also use a tarp and rocks to cover your unit to help prevent moisture and other debris from getting into your unit if you do not want to go and purchase a cover.

4. Change your air filter.

Locate, inside of your home, where the air filter is. Your air filter should be changed on a regular basis. You shouldn't wait longer than 3 to 4 months to change it each time. When you change your air filter, you help prevent it from becoming clogged with dirt and dust. When your filter gets clogged with dirt and dust, it can force your HVAC system to work harder to push the air throughout your home.

Once you have winterized your HVAC system, you can get your heater prepared for the coming colder months. Call a heating and cooling professional at the Lake of the Ozarks to come to your home and tune up your system, They can make sure everything works and that no repairs are needed before winter comes.
