The Best Ways to Conserve Heat in Your Home

Save your money for the holidays and learn how to conserve heat in your home. Conserving heat in your home can help cut back on your energy bill and possibly give you a little more spending money for the holiday season. Who wouldn’t love that? Our experienced heating and cooling company at the Lake of the Ozarks, Wall's HVAC Service is here to give you the following tips on how to conserve heat in your home.

5 Tips on How to Conserve Heat in Your Home

Tip # 1

Use your ceiling fans strategically.
Did you know, when your ceiling fan runs counter clock wise heat is pushed up in the summer and when they run clockwise it helps trap heat inside your room in the winter? Keep this in mind when running your ceiling fans this winter. Those colder temperatures on their way and they will be here before you know it.

Tip # 2

Adjust your thermostat when you know you won’t be at home.
Don’t run your heat all day while you are at work. That is wasted energy and money. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it to colder temperatures while in the winter months when you are away and set it to a temperature you feel comfortable when you know you are going to be home.

Tip # 3

Make sure your weather stripping isn’t worn out, if it is, replace it.
If your weather stripping is worn, it can let cold air into your home and you don’t want that this winter. Save yourself some money and make sure you have proper weather stripping around your door.

Tip # 4

Dress warmly.
If it’s really cold outside, get cozy in a nice pair of sweatpants and a long sleeved shirt while you’re inside. Help yourself to feel warmer so you are less likely to crank the heat and increase your heating bill for an unnecessary reason.

Tip # 5

Solar heat is FREE, use it when you can.
The sun does still shine sometimes in the colder months, so when it does, take advantage of that. Open your curtains and blinds and let that FREE heat shine in.
